A movie I saw a short time ago was Gran Torino (2008). Although this movie did not come out recently I finally found time to watch it. The main character, Walt Kowalski, played by Clint Eastwood, is a bitter Korean War veteran who recently lost his wife. The movie takes place in Highland Park, Michigan where Walt lives. His neighborhood which was once occupied by all white people is now mostly occupied by numerous Southeast Asian families including his direct neighbors. Walt’s teenage neighbor, Thao, is encouraged by local gang members to steal his 1972 Gran Torino and is almost shot by Walt. In order to repay Walt for his misbehavior, Thao works for Walt by doing household chores and such around the neighborhood. This time Walt spends with Thao and his sister Sue he learns that he has a great deal in common with them, even more in common with them than with his own family. Walt develops a bond with Thao and helps him get a job and stay away from the local gang. However, trouble from this gang follows Thao’s family and Walt until Walt feels as though it is time to put an end to it.
