The feature article I read was titled, Panic, in Time magazine. This issue of Time magazine was published October 20, 2014. The feature article, Panic, was about Ebola and how the virus effected America. The article mentioned that America has been experiencing panic and fear since the first Ebola case was diagnosed on September 30th of 2014. Other contagious, deadly diseases were also discussed in the article including D68 (EV-D68) which was the cause of death of a four year old boy from New Jersey, he was a triplet. Eric Duncan was the first diagnosed case of Ebola and he died eight days after he was diagnosed. Jeffrey Kluger, author of Panic, explains how it only took one diagnosed case of Ebola for our country to erupt. People pulled their children out of school, airline stocks crashed, and sales of hand sanitizer and surgical masks went through the roof. “One case has transformed the way we think about Ebola. It switched it from being impossible to possible.” [Jane Risen, behavioral scientist at the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business]
One of the supplements I read from Time magazine was a review of a new television show titled, Jane the Virgin. This review focused mostly on the main character, actress Gina Rodriguez. This review discussed how Rodriguez picked her roles carefully because she would not play a role that would go against what she believed in or would be a stereotype to her Latino ethnicity. This review included a lot of quotes from Rodriguez and the executive producer of Jane the Virgin. I believe that this review was casual and mostly factual. However, it was clear the author, Nolan Feeney supported Rodriguez and was fond of her new show.
